Chamber initiates business organizations memorandum of understanding

CBIG – Community Business Initiatives Group

At IMPACT 2010 | The Chamber’s Annual Address, the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce hosted the signing of a memorandum of understanding between local business groups.

Outgoing President Leslie Brochu announced the agreement which brings together the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce, Venture Kamloops Business Development Society, Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association, North Shore Business Improvement Association, Canadian Home Builders Association Central Interior, Community Futures Development Corporation Thompson Country and the Kamloops and District Real Estate Association.  This collaboration is called the Community Business Initiatives Group (CBIG).

The MOU defines a framework of cooperation and collaboration among the parties to ensure that there is overall business and economic vitality and support for the Kamloops community as a whole.

“This initiative stems directly from the Chamber’s strategic plan, the informal arrangements that have been working so well between our organizations and from our members and the community who perceive there may be duplication amongst our organizations,” states Leslie Brochu, Outgoing President of the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce.  “With the signing of this MOU, we agree to support each other’s efforts by minimizing duplication of services and activities and maximizing mutually beneficial activities.”

The lead agency in co-coordinating quarterly collaboration meetings and overseeing the documentation of the annual Collaborative Action Plan (CAP) is Venture Kamloops.  The CAP will be derived from initiatives identified in the parties’ business plans and represent shared opportunities as identified and agreed to by the parties.  It is anticipated that ad hoc opportunities will also present themselves and be considered throughout the year.
